Driving Cross Country
I think everyone has the same thoughts when they first get their driver’s license. One day when they finish school and possibly before college or right after college we want to drive across the country. We know from the east coast to the west coast it will take a good week if you want to spend a little bit of time at each state. If you really want to see the various states then make sure you allow yourself thirty days. Then you know that you can see at least one visiting point in each state. Try to travel in a good vehicle and make sure things are current and that means your inspection and your auto insurance policy. Now, is the time to go online and compare auto insurance rates if you think you may get lower premiums for your trip with the additional benefits?
Make sure you know what type of auto insurance you have and you may want to have roadside assistance and car rental in case anything goes wrong. Be aware of the various speed limits in the different states and be aware of the drivers on the roads since we all do not drive the same. Take into account the weather and the road construction and conditions you will be driving through. Call home to let people know where you are and how much progress you have made on your trip. Bring plenty of clothes to cover all different types of weather and ensure your camping gear is usable and in good condition.
Since we are writing this article as if you are traveling alone then let the state park know that you are alone if you do decide to do some hiking to see some of the sites. This way if you do not come back at dusk you will know that someone is aware that you are there and can come look for you. Leave identification in your car, your auto insurance policy is a good example since you will have it if you need it and it provides a name, vehicle number and current coverage. Leave your cell phone number on the dashboard in case someone needs to call you. Otherwise, enjoy the journey and brings home some great pictures.
Can You Eat and Drive
Since we were young, anytime we go on a long ride or trip we always seem to find things that we can snack on. This does not stop even when we are driving. There are things that we will eat like chips and candy and sometimes you will see people eating a hamburger or sandwich just to keep making time on the road. Should this be done and are we putting ourselves at risk by doing this while we are driving. Young driver should not have anything in their hands and should be providing their full attention to the road and all the other drivers on the road. If you are eating anything while you are driving, you want to be able to focus on the road and what is around you.
It is easy for younger drivers and older drivers for that matter to get distracted and have an accident. If you are eating, then how can your full attention be on the road. Even experienced adults should not be eating a sandwich while they are driving. You should not have a drink in your hand. What would happen if you needed to stop quickly? Would you worry about the drink spilling or would you be able to respond and apply your brakes in time to avoid the accident. If it is a passenger or someone in the backseat then there are no worries. They have nothing to do with the control of the car.
When you are looking to compare auto insurance quotes they do not ask how many people will be driving the car. They are interested in who will be driving the car. The insurance policy covers one driver at a time. So, when it comes to eating and driving then make some common sense decisions. You know that you cannot fully concentrate on the road if you have a hot cup of coffee, a sandwich and a bag of chips in your lap. You can take a small piece of a sandwich and eat it, just make the pieces are small enough so you can keep both hands on the wheel and be able to focus in case you need to make some quick choices.
Children Playing in the Street
If you live on a side street then growing up you were very familiar with playing ball in the streets until it was dark. The goal was to get in a game until your parents came home and then go in to do your homework. Now a days there are so many children that go to after school programs or are in their homes playing videos games that we almost forget about the child that still plays outdoors every now and then with a ball.
One day you will be driving down the road and you may be startled by a ball advancing from between parked cars. When this happened it is natural for your heart to skip a beat. No one ever wants to be responsible for hitting a child. This is one reason to obey traffic speed limit signs in a residential area. You would want to be driving your vehicle slow enough so that you would be able to stop no matter what ran out in front of your car.
